江南江北愁望。
相思相憶空吟。
鴛鴦暖臥沙浦。
鸂鶒閒飛橘林。
煙裏歌聲隱隱。
渡頭月色沈沈。

況聽家家還砧。

Gazing across at each other, helpless, from the north and south banks of this river
frustrated, speaking each other's poems, recalling our times together
—that pair of mandarin ducks looks happy swimming warmly next to the sandbar
and those two teals are without a care as they fly through the tangerine grove
I hear a faint sound of singing now rising up with the chimney smoke
I watch the deep and brilliant moonlight next to the empty ferry slip
even if we were a few feet apart my feelings would have to cross miles
listening sadly as they pound laundry in distant family compounds.
