ESTABLISHMENT OF THE FRANCES MYERS BALL PROFESSORSHIP IN THE CARDIOVASCULAR DIVISION IN THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERNAL MEDICINE

The following resolution was adopted:

  • WHEREAS, Frances Myers Ball, a longtime resident of Charlottesville, was deeply interested in the School of Medicine; and
  • WHEREAS, Mrs. Ball's only son, John David Ball, died of a rare heart condition at the age of 16; and
  • WHEREAS, Mrs. Ball, in memory of her son, made several gifts to the Division of Cardiology in the School of Medicine during her lifetime; and
  • WHEREAS, Mrs. Ball died in September 1996, and was extremely generous to the School of Medicine in the benefactions in her estate; and
  • WHEREAS, Mrs. Ball directed that funds from her estate be used to establish professorships in the Medical School;
  • RESOLVED The Board of Visitors is grateful for Mrs. Ball's generous gifts and establishes the Frances Myers Ball Professorship in the Cardiovascular Division in the Department of Internal Medicine.
