ESTABLISHMENT OF THE EDWARD F. HOWREY PROFESSORSHIP IN LAW

The following resolution was adopted:

  • WHEREAS, Edward F. Howrey, a native of Iowa and an alumnus of the University of Iowa and of George Washington University, lived in Virginia for most of his life; and
  • WHEREAS, Mr. Howrey served as Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission under President Eisenhower from 1953 to 1956; and
  • WHEREAS, Mr. Howrey was a most distinguished member of the Washington Bar; and
  • WHEREAS, Mr. Howrey died in Winchester on April 10, 1996, leaving $500,000 to the Law School for the establishment of a professorship of advocacy and professional responsibility;
  • RESOLVED The Board of Visitors expresses its gratitude for Mr. Howrey's generous gift and establishes the Edward F. Howrey Professorship in Law at the School of Law.
