• Mr. Herbert T. Braun as Horace W. Goldsmsith Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Humanities, effective September 1, 1996.
• Ms. Carolyn M. Callahan as William Clay Parrish, Jr., Professor of Education, for two years, effective July 1, 1996. Ms. Callahan will continue as Professor of Education, without term.
• Ms. Cora Diamond as University Professor, effective September 1, 1996. Ms. Diamond will continue as Professor of Law and Kenan Professor of Philosophy, without term.
• Mr. Justus Fetscher as Max Kade Visiting Professor of German, for one semester, effective September 1, 1996.
• Mr. Leslie E. Grayson as Isidore Horween Research Professor of Business Administration, for two years, effective June 1, 1996. Mr. Grayson will continue as Professor of International Business Economics, without term.
• Mr. Daniel P. Hallahan as Virgil S. Ward Professor of Education, for two years, effective July 1, 1996. Mr. Hallahan will continue as Professor of Education, without term.
