Þe kinges kniȝtes hadden tene,
Of otuwel wordes kene;
Wiþ þat word anon riȝt,
Op starte a freinsche kniȝt,
Bihinden otuwel he cam,

& be þe hod otuwel nam,
& braid wiþ so gret miȝt,
& braid adon þat heþene kniȝt,
& anon out wiþ a knif,
& wolde haue reued him his lif,
& þat sarazin otuwel,
Was i-armed swiþe wel,
Þat he ne dede him nouȝt bote good,
Ne drouȝ of his bodi no blood.
