“King garsie,” quaþ arperaunt,
“Bi mahoun þat ȝonder stant,
Al þe while þat roulond
Mai bere durendal in his hond,
& oliuer rit by his side,
For no þing þat may betide,
Þou ne schalt neuere otuwel winne,
For nouȝt þat euere þou kans biginne.”
