CLOSURE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF RHETORIC AND COMMUNICATION
STUDIES

The following resolution was adopted:

(Mr. Robert G. Butcher, Jr. voted in opposition to the resolution).
WHEREAS the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences has recommended that the Department of Rhetoric and Communication Studies shall be closed at the end of the academic year 1994-95; and

WHEREAS the Executive Council of the Faculty Senate Committee has reviewed the report of the Faculty Senate's Program Planning Committee regarding closure of this Department and agrees that the University should proceed with closure;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Department of Rhetoric and Communication Studies shall be closed at the end of the academic year 1994-95, and that any existing faculty appointments in the Department shall be transferred to other University departments, and that uncompleted degree work shall be supervised by these departments.
FURTHER that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted to the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia.
