MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR HENRY ANDERSON DUDLEY

The following resolution was adopted:

  • WHEREAS, Henry Anderson Dudley was born in Altavista, on April 28, 1913, and brought up in Roanoke; and
  • WHEREAS, Mr. Dudley attended Roanoke College and took his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1937; and
  • WHEREAS, Mr. Dudley practiced law in Roanoke before joining the United States Navy in 1942; and
  • WHEREAS, after distinguished military service, Mr. Dudley moved to Washington and resumed the private practice of law in that city; and
  • WHEREAS, Mr. Dudley was appointed to the Board of Visitors in 1983, and reappointed in 1987, serving with great distinction until his retirement in 1988; and
  • WHEREAS, Mr. Dudley was a distinguished member of a number of boards and commissions, in Virginia and elsewhere, on which he served unselfishly and with devotion; and
  • WHEREAS, Mr. Dudley died in Washington on April 16, 1995;
  • RESOLVED, the Board of Visitors takes note of Henry Anderson Dudley's devoted service to the University, his particular interest in the School of Law, his years on the Board, his friendship and his unfailing courtesy and good humor; and expresses its deep sense of loss at his passing and its sympathy to his family.
