APPROVAL OF NEW EMINENT SCHOLAR ENDOWMENT FUNDING LEVELS
- The following resolution was adopted:
RESOLVED that the following eminent scholar endowment funding levels be and they are hereby approved effective October 7, 1988: 1. CHAIRED PROFESSORSHIP (Conventional Chair):
- - Minimum level to establish is $400,000.
- - Qualifies under Eminent Scholars Program for matching funds.
- - Available only to faculty who have attained the rank of Full or Associate Professor for five years and are Eminent Scholars.
- - Effective July 1, 1989
2. RESEARCH PROFESSORSHIP:
- - Minimum level to establish is $200,000.
- - Qualifies under Eminent Scholars Program for matching funds.
- - Only available to support research, and may be used to supplement salary while engaged in summer activities. Available only to faculty holding rank of Full or Associate Professor.
- - May be used on a rotational basis for appointments from one to four years.
- - Effective immediately.
3. EMINENT SCHOLARS ENDOWMENT:
- - Minimum endowment level to establish is $1 million.
- - $500,000 for a non-Eminent Scholar endowment to contribute toward base salary or non-salary support (No State match).
- - $500,000 Eminent Scholars endowment as salary supplement with matching funds from the State.
- Another option with a $1 million or more gift is the establishment of a non-Eminent Scholars Chair which does not use a State FTE.
- - Effective immediately.
4. YOUNG FACULTY AWARD:
- - Minimum level to establish is $100,000.
- - Does not qualify for Eminent Scholars matching funds.
- - May be available to all non-Chairholders on faculty, to support summer research, or to support base salary. Primarily for promising young faculty engaged in teaching or research.
- - May be used on a rotational basis.
- - Effective immediately.

Donors to each of these categories will be encouraged to complete their pledges in three years or less.
The current $200,000 minimum Eminent Scholar level will remain in effect for the Schools of Architecture, Education, and Nursing until four chairs have been established in each School.
