ESTABLISHMENT OF POLICY ON FACULTY AND GRADUATE TEACHING
ASSISTANT WORKLOADS

  • The following resolution was adopted:
RESOLVED that the following policy on faculty and graduate teaching assistants workloads be and it is hereby established effective July 1, 1988:
  • A full-time faculty workload for salary purposes is defined as twenty-four course equivalent hours per academic session. For part-time faculty, this load is pro-rated depending upon the duties assigned.
  • A full-time graduate teaching assistant workload is defined for salary purposes as twenty work hours per week for the academic session or .50 FTE. For laboratory and discussion sections, eight contact hours per week of supervision are considered to be a full work load (.50 FTE); for multisection courses, six credit hours per semester (i.e., two sections of three semester hours each) are considered a full work load (.50 FTE). In all cases, the remaining hours (i.e., to reach the 20 hours/week work load) include time for maintenance of office hours, consultations with students, administration and grading of papers, preparation time, or such other duties as may be assigned.
