Union Seeking
Committee Heads

By Holly Smith
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Along with the change of leadership
resulting from recent elections, the
University Union is instigating a change in
the structure and concept of the various
committees which make up the
organization.

With the philosophy that "the
purpose of all Union committees is to
enhance the quality of student life," the
newly-elected tri-chairmen, Alan
Freeman, Bob Jordan and Kip
Thompson, have modified previously
existing committees and created two
entirely new divisions.

The aim of the new Intercollegiate
News Committee will be to gather and
publish information about major events and
speakers at nearby colleges and universities.
This information would be distributed to all
area schools.

The second new committee, the Research
Committee, will attempt to act as a clearing
house for student problems by directing
student inquiries to the proper organization or,
when no agency exists to handle the specific
request, to draw on the specialized knowledge
of University members to solve those problems.
Hopefully students in many fields, such as
marketing, psychology, and statistics, could
apply what they are in the process of learning
to actual situations.

Other committees include the Fine Arts,
Publicity, Student Activities, Speakers and
Concert Committees.

The Union is currently seeking students to
head there committees, each of which will have
two chairmen, excluding the Concert
Committee which will be chaired by three
members of the PK-German Dance Society.

Students interested in becoming committee
chairmen are requested to call the Union office
by Thursday, April 29, to make an
appointment for an informal interview and
discussion with past and present Union officers.
All committee chairmen are granted free
admission to all Union-sponsored activities.
