A grease fire at the Downtowner Motor Inn yesterday was carried through the ventilation system onto the roof. When the manager shut off the fan, the fire was extinguished. Nevertheless, three Charlottesville Fire Trucks arrived on the scene after being called by three different sources — the motor inn, a patrol car, and a nearby store. The fire was quickly extinguished. No damage was reported and Tom Wilder, a hotel clerk, said that the Downtowner would not close except for a temporary period in order to clean up.
