Linksters Outswing W&M, Richmond

By PAUL DUNN

Playing in Williamsburg, the
Cavalier golf team soundly
defeated the University of
Richmond and William and
Mary in a tri-meet on Saturday.
The linksters turned the meet
into a runaway by turning
Richmond back convincingly
13-8.

William and Mary was never
really in the match and
eventually lost 19-2.

The meet used the medal
play system based on strokes.
A golfer gets one point for
having the best score on the
front nine and another if he is
the low man on the back nine.
The golfer with the fewest

strokes over all eighteen holes
gets another point.

Veteran Mozur Goes Unbeaten

Fourth-year man Mike
Mozur led the Cavalier
onslaught. Blanking his
opponents 3-0, he was the only
member of the golf team to
record a perfect day.

Holcomb Also Excels

Another standout for the
linksters was first-year man
Whit Holcomb. The rookie also
handled his opponents easily,
defeating them 2½-½.

Two other linksters, Mike
Balvage and Bill Hickson won
their matches 2-1.

Golfers Prepare For Tourneys

With their victory Saturday,
the team ran their record to
2-0. The victory should help
the Cav's morale and
confidence for the Furman
Invitational Tournament to be
held in Greenville, South
Carolina from April 4-7.

Should the Cavaliers
continue their winning ways at
Greenville and at the later
Maryland Spring Classic, it
should give them a real boost
for the ACC tournament to be
held from April 15-18.
