RESOLUTION OF THE RECTOR AND VISITORS OF THE UNIVERSITY
OF VIRGINIA URGING THE GOVERNOR AND THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA TO ESTABLISH POSITIONS NECESSARY FOR
THE PROPER FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA

• The following resolution was unanimously adopted:
• WHEREAS, The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia is charged with directing the affairs of the University in the manner necessary to accomplish the important public purposes for which the University exists; and

• WHEREAS, proper financial management of the University is an essential element of achieving the University's purposes; and
• WHEREAS, The Rector and Visitors has received and considered the report of Price Waterhouse and Company dated December 21, 1979, making comments and recommendations resulting from an examination of the University's financial statements for the year ended June 30, 1979; and
• WHEREAS, one of the recommendations of Price Waterhouse and Company is that the University's middle level financial management be strengthened, and The Rector and Visitors feels it is imperative to the proper financial management of the University that it act immediately to meet this need; and
• WHEREAS, The Rector and Visitors' ability to meet this need is restricted by the lack of positions presently authorized by the Commonwealth of Virginia for such middle level financial management;
• NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that The Rector and Visitors hereby urges the Governor and the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia to include in the appropriations to the University for the 1980-82 biennium the positions necessary to provide the University with competent and experienced financial management.
