STATEMENT OF THE PRESIDENT

President Edgar F. Shannon, Jr., having joined the meeting, praised Mr. Hereford, saying that he has had a leading part in developing the current quality and academic stature of the University of Virginia. As student, alumnus, teacher, scholar, and administrator, he knows the University thoroughly and has outstanding professional and personal attributes and capabilities to lead it to further heights of educational distinction and public service.
