RESOLUTION OF THANKS TO MARY WASHINGTON COLLEGE

The following resolution was adopted:

  • WHEREAS, Mary Washington College has been a distinguished and important part of the University of Virginia since 1944; and
  • WHEREAS the College has developed a high level of educational quality during the period of association with the University; and
  • WHEREAS the General Assembly of Virginia has provided for the establishment of Mary Washington College as a separate institution under its own Board of Visitors as of July 1, 1972;
  • NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that congratulations be extended to Mary Washington College as it achieves independent status, and that as the College leaves the University of Virginia, it goes with the best wishes of this Board for continued success.

The Chancellor expressed thanks to this Board and to preceding Boards for tolerance and patience and for the assistance given to Mary Washington College.

The Rector said that the Board will miss the gratifying relationship that has existed between Mary Washington College and the University at Charlottesville. He complimented the Chancellor on the accomplishments of the College and expressed the thanks of the Board to Mr. Grellet Simpson for the outstanding leadership he has exhibited.
