LEAVES OF ABSENCE

The following resolution was adopted:

  • RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the following faculty members be and they are hereby granted leave of absence:
  • Miss Ruth E. Brong, Associate Professor of Nursing, for the period July 14, 1972, through August 31, 1972, without pay, to take care of personal matters.
  • Mr. Charles S. Chen, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1972, without pay, to serve as Program Manager, European and American Section, Office of International Programs, under the National Science Foundation's Personnel Mobility Program.
  • Mr. Inis L. Claude, Edward R. Stettinius, Jr., Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, for one semester, effective September 1, 1973, without pay, to serve as Visiting Professor at the University of Wales.
  • Mr. Edwin S. Cohen, Joseph M. Hartfield Professor of Law, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1972, without pay, to continue to serve as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury.
  • Mr. Leopold Damrosch, Assistant Professor of English, for one semester, effective February 1, 1973, without pay, to accept an award from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
  • Mr. W. Reed Johnson, Professor of Nuclear Engineering, for one semester, effective September 1, 1972, without pay, to carry out research.
  • Mr. Robert W. Langbaum, James Branch Cabell Professor of English, for one semester, effective September 1, 1972, without pay, to accept an award from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
  • Mr. Graham C. Lilly, Professor of Law, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1972, with one-half pay, to engage in a study of the work of the Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit.
  • Mr. Donald L. McGrady, Professor of Spanish, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1972, without pay, to accept a Guggenheim Fellowship.
  • Dr. George R. Minor, Professor of Surgery, for two years, effective July 1, 1972, without pay, to participate in the teaching and activities of the University of Tunisia School of Medicine and Hospital Charles Nicoll.
  • Mr. Loren D. Pitt, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, for one semester, effective September 1, 1972, without pay, to spend the fall semester at the University of Southern California.
  • Mr. John Ruvalds, Associate Professor of Physics, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1972, without pay, to accept a position as Visiting Associate Professor, James Franck Institute, University of Chicago.
  • Mr. J. David Sapir, Associate Professor of Anthropology, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1972, without pay, to serve as Visiting Professor at the University of Paris-Nanterre.
  • Mr. Paul S. Shoup, Associate Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1972, without pay, to accept a Ford Foundation Faculty Research Fellowship in Political Science.
  • Mr. Ekkehard Sinn, Associate Professor of Chemistry, for the period September 1, 1972, through October 31, 1972, without pay, to fulfill obligations at the University of New South Wales, New Zealand.
  • Mr. Lawrence Smith, Associate Professor of Mathematics, for the period September 1, 1972, through January 31, 1974, without pay, to serve at Yale University and Aarhus University, Denmark.
  • Mr. Peter H. Taylor, Commonwealth Professor of English, for one semester, effective September 1, 1972, without pay, to carry out research.
