ACTION OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ON AMENDING THE MANUAL TO
PROVIDE FOR THE ELECTION OF ROTC FACULTY MEMBERS

The Rector convened the Executive Committee while the full Board was in session. He explained that the Manual of the Board must be revised in order to conform it to the practice of the Board of electing ROTC faculty members rather than hearing announcements of these appointments. The Board adopted a resolution on October 2, 1970 to provide for election of the ROTC faculty. The Manual must be amended to delete the appointment of ROTC faculty members from the President's duties and powers. Section 5.8 of the Manual provides that the Manual may be amended at any regular meeting of the Board by a majority of all members of the Board provided that the views of the Executive Committee on the amendment have been submitted to the Board, and that notice of the amendment was included in the regular notice of the meeting. Therefore, the Executive Committee, with the full Board present and concurring, adopted the following resolution:

  • RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the following amendment be and it is hereby made to the Manual of the Board of Visitors:
  • Change, on page 20, Section 4.22 subsection 6 to read as follows:
  • (6) he shall appoint instructors at the first salary step and shall reappoint lecturers after an initial election by the Board;

Notice will be given in the call for the June meeting that the amendment is to be considered at that time.
