REPORT ON THE STATE COUNCIL OF HIGHER EDUCATION MEETING,
MARCH 4, 1971
The President reported that the State Council of Higher Education held a regular meeting at the University on March 4, 1971 and that the State Council indicated a high level of interest in the University and its development. The President reported that since the meeting he had received letters commenting on the fine feeling of the State Council toward the University.
Mr. Santarelli asked if the State standards are still posing a serious problem for the University. The President responded that there is now recognition that various exceptions to the State standards are needed, and that the State Council will support some of these. Mr. Shea commented that classroom space is still a serious problem in the graduate schools. Mr. Barrett pointed out that extensions to the Library should be given top priority. He noted that the last examination period had created a chaotic situation in the Library because there was such a serious shortage of places for students to study.
