ORATOR OF THE UNIVERSITY
The President announced the creation of a non-salaried position, "Orator Universitarius". He explained that the University from time to time is called on to send greetings in Latin, a custom that is followed particularly at the inauguration of college presidents, and that there is a need to have someone compose these greetings in proper grammatical form and in good style. Mr. Edward Courtney, presently at Stanford University but who has been elected the first Gildersleeve Professor of Classics and will take up his duties at the University in the fall, has agreed to take on these responsibilities as "Orator of the University."
On motion, the meeting adjourned at 12:40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Alexander G. Gilliam, Jr.
Secretary
