APPROVAL OF PROPOSAL BY THE UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER AND
HEALTH SERVICES FOUNDATION TO PROVIDE STATE-WIDE HEALTH
PROMOTION PROGRAMS

  • The following resolution was adopted:
  • WHEREAS the Vice President and Provost for Health Sciences recommends a proposal to provide health promotion programs and services to employees, their dependents, and retirees of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in response to a request for proposals issued by the Commonwealth Department of Personnel and Training;
  • WHEREAS such programs and services, which are designed to encourage positive health practices, would be provided by the University Medical Center in conjunction with the Institute for Quality Health (formerly known as the Wellness and Fitness Center) of the Health Services Foundation;

  • WHEREAS by resolution adopted on October 6, 1989, the Board of Visitors approved the establishment of the Wellness and Fitness Center as a component of the Health Services Foundation, for the principal purpose of providing wellness, fitness, and health promotion services at a reasonable cost to members of the University community;
  • WHEREAS the University Policy on University-related Foundations requires that foundations submit for Board of Visitors' approval any proposed change in the purpose or scope of foundation activities that is substantial in nature;
  • RESOLVED that the above-described proposal be and it is hereby approved subject to the determination by the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer that the proposal is financially feasible; and
  • RESOLVED FURTHER that the University of Virginia Medical Center be and it is hereby authorized to enter into a written agreement, reviewed and approved by the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and the General Counsel, relative to the health promotion programs for the Department of Personnel and Training of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the provision and exchange of services, resources, and facilities between the University and the University of Virginia Health Services Foundation's Institute for Quality Health.
