STATEMENT OF MR. GILBERT J. SULLIVAN, DIRECTOR OF ALUMNI ACTIVITIES
OF THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Mr. Gilbert Sullivan said that the University of Virginia Alumni Association is 150 years old and that its activities have continuing efforts to raise funds for University purposes. He said a major present responsibility of the Association is the operation of the University of Virginia Fund, which raises about $12 million annually. Related activities are the phonathons, investment services and similar organizations.
Alumni records of 110,000 living alumni are maintained in a computerized system. He said the maintenance of the Jefferson Scholars Program and The Alumni News are also important activities.
He assured the Board that the Alumni Association stands ready to work with the Board of Visitors in every way including fundraising. He predicted that private gifts from alumni will total $50 million this year.
