[WRITTEN ON THE BACK OF THE FOREGOING]

Give me a pen that's charg'd with dews
Fresh gather'd from the morning rose,
And let it stain my page with hues
As bright as kernel buds enclose.
In common ink shall I indite,
With ink that dates the felon's doom,
That forges bonds,—no, let me write
My bloomy thoughts in tints of bloom.
