ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PROFESSORSHIP IN PALLIATIVE CARE IN THE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

WHEREAS, the Center for Humanism in Medicine, under the direction of Dr. Daniel Becker, works to foster and sustain the humanistic impulses that draw students, medical residents, and faculty to medicine; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Becker and the Center teach residents and fellows about palliative care and the art of home health care visits; and

WHEREAS, John W. Kluge and the John W. Kluge Foundation, together with other generous donors, have provided funds for a professorship which both recognizes the work of Dr. Becker and supports the expansion of his program in palliative care;

RESOLVED, the Board of Visitors establishes the Professorship in Palliative Care, to be held in the Department of Medicine in the School of Medicine, thanks John W. Kluge for this latest instance of his generosity to the University, and expresses its appreciation to the other donors whose support has made the Professorship possible.
