APPROVAL OF THE NAMING OF THE COUNSELING CENTER

The following resolution was adopted:

  • WHEREAS, Lyell Clay of West Virginia, an alumnus of the School of Law, has made a generous gift to the University to finance a program in suicide prevention at the University Counseling Center; and
  • WHEREAS, Mr. Clay made his gift in honor of Harrison B. "Tersh" Smith, Jr., an alumnus of the University who died in 1957; and
  • WHEREAS, Mr. Clay's gift will provide an endowment which will support the suicide prevention program and a counselor in suicide prevention, thus enabling the University to establish a program which will serve as a model for other institutions;
  • RESOLVED that the Board of Visitors thanks Mr. Clay for his generosity and names the Counseling Center the Harrison Bowne "Tersh" Smith, Jr., Memorial Center for Counseling and Psychological Services.
