MOTIONS FOR EXECUTIVE SESSION

  • The following motions were unanimously adopted by the vote of all Visitors present:

  • 3647

  • (a) That the Board of Visitors of the University of Virginia go into Executive Session for the discussion or consideration of employment, assignment, appointment of public officers, appointees or employees of a public body as provided for in Section 2.1-344 A. (1) of the Code of Virginia.
  • (b) That the Board of Visitors go into Executive Session for consultation with legal counsel pertaining to actual or potential litigation, or other legal matters within the jurisdiction of the Board, as provided for in Section 2.1-344 A. (7) of the Code of Virginia.
  • (c) That the Finance Committee of the Board of Visitors go into Executive Session for Item Number 21 on that Committee's agenda for the purpose or consideration of employment, and salaries of public officers, appointees or employees as provided for in Section 2.1-344 A. (1) of the Code of Virginia.
  • (d) That the Finance Committee of the Board of Visitors go into Executive Session for Item Number 20 on that Committee's agenda for the discussion or consideration of the condition, acquisition or use of real property for public purpose, or of the disposition of publicly held property, or of plans for the future of a state institution of higher education which could affect the value of property owned or desirable for ownership by such institution of higher education which could affect the value of property owned or desirable for ownership by such institution as provided for in Section 2.1-344 A. (3) of the Code of Virginia.
  • (e) That the Educational Policy Committee of the Board of Visitors go into Executive Session for Item Number 14 on that Committee's agenda for the discussion or consideration of personnel matters involving University appointees including employment, assignment, appointment, promotion, performance, demotion, salaries, discipling or resignation of public officers, appointees or employees of the University as provided for in Section 2.1-344 A. (1) of the Code of Virginia.

Following a recess for an Executive Session of the Board of Visitors, the Open Session continued at 2:25 p.m., on May 23, 1989.

The Rector extended thanks, on behalf of the Board of Visitors to Chancellor Jimmy Knight, of Clinch Valley College, for the warm hospitality that the Clinch Valley College staff has shown to the Board.

The Rector then presented a token of appreciation to Mrs. Jeanne Bailes, who made the arrangements for the meeting in Southwest Virginia, noting that she had worked for several months to insure the success of the meeting.

The Rector also expressed appreciation to Mrs. George Cochran for her participation in arranging for hospitality for the Board during this the first meeting of the Board to be held away from Charlottesville since the University gave up the governance of Mary Washington College.
