• Mr. Richard M. Rorty, William R. Kenan, Jr., Professor of Humanities, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1982, to pursue research at Princeton University.

• Mr. Frank S. Kaulback, Jr., Carman G. Blough Professor of Accounting, School of Commerce, effective May 31, 1982. He has been a member of the faculty since 1943.
• Mr. Frederick D. Nichols, Cary D. Langhorne Professor of Architecture, effective May 31, 1982. He has been a member of the faculty since 1950.
• Mr. Louis T. Rader, Alice M. and Guy A. Wilson Professor of Electrical Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Science, and Professor of Business Administration, The Darden School, effective May 31, 1982. He has been a member of the faculty since 1969.
