REVISED UNIVERSITY AFFIRMATIVE ACTION PLAN FOR EQUAL EMPLOYMENT
OPPORTUNITY

  • The following resolution was adopted:
  • WHEREAS, the Board of Visitors on April 1, 1978, resolved that the University of Virginia would participate in the Virginia Plan for Equal Opportunity in State-Supported Institutions of Higher Education (Revised 1978), which Plan had been submitted by the Governor to HEW and approved by that agency; and

  • WHEREAS, the Plan provides that each state-supported institution of higher education formulate an institutional affirmative action plan consistent with the statewide Plan; and
  • WHEREAS, on May 16, 1978, the Philadelphia Office of HEW initiated an independent compliance review of the University's Affirmative Action Plan, as required by Presidential Executive Order 11246 prior to the intended award of a $1.2 million contract to the University, supporting the study and treatment of epilepsy,
  • BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia:
  • (1) That the University of Virginia Affirmative Action Plan for Equal Employment Opportunity (Revised 1978) attached to these Minutes and designated Attachment I, be and it is hereby approved; and
  • (2) That in the judgment of the Board of Visitors the University of Virginia Plan complies with the criteria set forth by the Director of the Office of Civil Rights under which the statewide Plan was formulated and approved by HEW and the criteria of applicable law; and
  • (3) That any proposed substantive revisions of the University of Virginia Plan, deriving from continuing negotiations with the Philadelphia Office of HEW, pursuant to the independent compliance review by that office, be submitted by the President to the Executive Committee of the Board of Visitors for its consideration.
