ACTIONS RELATING TO CHAIRHOLDERS
- The following resolution was adopted:
RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the following person be and he is hereby elected to the named chair as shown below: - Mr. Sidney M. Hecht as John W. Mallet Professor of Chemistry, effective September 1, 1978.
(b) Changes of Title for Chairholders
- Mr. Kenneth W. Thompson, from Robert Kent Gooch Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs and Professor of Religious Studies, to White Burkett Miller Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs and Professor of Religious Studies, effective July 1, 1978.
- Mr. Victor W. Turner, William R. Kenan, Jr., Professor of Anthropology, to William R. Kenan, Jr., Professor of Anthropology and Religious Studies, effective July 1, 1978.
(c) Leaves of Absence for Chairholders
- Mr. Edwin S. Cohen, Joseph M. Hartfield Professor of Law, one-half time, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to serve as Counsel to the Covington and Burling Law Firm, Washington, D. C.
- Mr. Sidney M. Hecht, John W. Mallet Professor of Chemistry, for the period September 1, 1978, through June 30, 1979, to facilitate transfer of research operations from MIT to University of Virginia.
- Mr. Stanley D. Henderson, F. D. G. Ribble Professor of Law, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to visit Harvard University.
- Mr. John A. C. Hetherington, David A. Harrison Professor of Law, one-half time, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to complete a research project.
- Mr. Monrad G. Paulsen, John B. Minor Professor of Law, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to continue as Vice-President for Legal Education, Yeshiva University.
- Mr. Warren F. Schwartz, Henry L. and Grace Doherty Charitable Foundation Professor of Law, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to visit Georgetown University Law School.
- Mr. Mason Willrich, John C. Stennis Professor of Law, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to continue serving with the Rockefeller Foundation as Director of the Division of International Affairs.
(d) Resignation of Chairholder
- Mr. Marshall S. Shapo, Joseph M. Hartfield Professor of Law, effective May 31, 1978, to accept a position at Northwestern University Law School.
