LEAVES OF ABSENCE
- The following resolution was adopted:
RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the following faculty members be and they are hereby granted leave of absence: - Mr. William G. Austin, Assistant Professor of Psychology, one-half time, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978 to accept a Russell Sage Foundation Award.
- Mr. Jonathan W. Best, Assistant Professor of Art History, for one semester, effective January 16, 1979, to serve as Visiting Professor/Researcher at Wesleyan University.
- Mr. Robert J. Brugger, Assistant Professor of History, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to pursue research.
- Miss Janice Carlisle, Assistant Professor of English, for one semester, effective September 1, 1978, for writing and research.
- Mr. James F. Childress, Professor of Religious Studies, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to fulfill previous commitments.
- Mr. Edwin S. Cohen, Joseph M. Hartfield Professor of Law, one-half time, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to serve as Counsel to the Covington and Burling Law Firm, Washington, D. C.
- Mr. John C. Coleman, Assistant Professor of English, for one semester, effective January 16, 1979, for travel and study.
- Mr. Charles E. Echols, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, for one semester, effective September 1, 1978, for personal reasons.
- Mr. Eleftherios N. Economou, Associate Professor of Physics, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to complete projects at the University of Athens and to serve as Professor of Theoretical Physics.
- Mr. Paul M. Gaston, Professor of History, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to pursue research.
- Mr. Seymour E. Goodman, Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to continue his research at Princeton.
- Mr. Michael J. Graetz, Professor of Law, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to teach at Harvard University Law School.
- Mr. John Guzzardo, Assistant Professor of Italian, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to carry out research.
- Mr. Sidney M. Hecht, John W. Mallet Professor of Chemistry, for the period September 1, 1978, through June 30, 1979, to facilitate transfer of research operations from MIT to University of Virginia.
- Mr. Stanley D. Henderson, F. D. G. Ribble Professor of Law, three-fourths time, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to visit Harvard University.
- Mr. John A. C. Hetherington, David A. Harrison Professor of Law, one-half time, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to complete a research project.
- Mrs. E. Mavis Hetherington, Professor of Psychology, for one semester, effective January 16, 1979, for research and writing.
- Mr. Michael F. Holt, Associate Professor of History, for one semester, effective January 16, 1979, to pursue research.
- Mr. Paul W. Humphreys, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to teach at the University of Arizona.
- Mr. Marc E. Kellner, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to serve as visiting faculty at the University of Haifa, Israel.
- Mrs. Constance Kuriyama, Assistant Professor of English, for one semester, effective September 1, 1978, for writing and research.
- Mr. P. Kyle McCarter, Jr., Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to accept a visiting professorship at Harvard's Department of Near Eastern Languages.
- Mr. Kevin M. McCrimmon, Professor of Mathematics, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to serve as a Humboldt Fellow, Munster.
- Mrs. Barbara Nolan, Professor of English, two-thirds time, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, for research and study.
- Mr. Monrad G. Paulsen, John B. Minor Professor of Law, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to continue as Vice-President for Legal Education, Yeshiva University.
- Mr. Charles L. Ross, Assistant Professor of English, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to accept a Guggenheim Fellowship.
- Mr. Michael Ryan, Assistant Professor of English, for one academic year, effective September 1, 1978, to accept a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship.
- Mr. Craig L. Sarazin, Assistant Professor of Astronomy, for one semester, effective January 16, 1979, to carry out collaborative research at the University of California, Berkeley.
