DORMITORY RENTAL CHARGES

The resolution relating to dormitory rental charges as approved by the Board at its meeting on 17 February 1968 was amended and re-enacted as follows:

  • WHEREAS, in addition to the requirement that entering undergraduate students in their first year reside in a University dormitory, the Board of Visitors for many years has had a regulation that residence in a dormitory for undergraduates in their second session may be required;
  • WHEREAS there are rooms available in the dormitories which have been built from the proceeds of the sale of revenue bonds which are being amortized from the income from dormitory rental charges;
  • WHEREAS the dormitories must be occupied at or near capacity in order to provide the necessary revenues to retire the bonds and at the same time make the dormitories available to the entire student body; and
  • WHEREAS the Board of Visitors does not desire at this time to enforce the requirement of residence in the dormitories during the second undergraduate session:
  • NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that, effective 1 September 1968, in addition to the dormitory rental charge for the first year for entering undergraduate students, all of whom must reside in University dormitories, each entering student shall pay a deposit of $100 which shall be applied toward his dormitory rental if he resides in the dormitories during his second undergraduate year; provided, however, that (1) if the student chooses to live elsewhere than in the dormitories during his second year the deposit fee shall be forfeited and (2) if the student does not return to the University for his second undergraduate year, the deposit fee of $100 shall be refunded.
