WIDENING OF BARRACKS ROAD

The President reported on a proposal by the City of Charlottesville for the widening of Barracks Road from Emmett Street to U.S. 250 by-pass west. The proposal by the City would involve the dedication to the City by the University of a strip of University land bordering on the south of Barracks Road. The amount of land involved was estimated, the President stated, to be approximately one acre.

After discussion, the following resolution was adopted:

  • RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the Comptroller of the University be and he is hereby authorized to grant to the City of Charlottesville an easement for the use of University land necessary to widen Barracks Road between Emmett Street and U.S. 250 by-pass west, as shown on the plat presented to this meeting; and
  • RESOLVED FURTHER that the easement so granted shall be subject to the prior approval of Special Counsel of the University both as to form and substance.
