INTER-UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL TEACHER EDUCATION COUNCIL, INC.

The President reported that the Dean of the School of Education, Mr. Ralph W. Cherry, had proposed that the University of Virginia become a member of the Inter-University International Teacher Education Council, Inc., as one of the charter members. He reported further that this proposal, which is to be financed by the U.S. Government under the International Education Act of 1966, has for its major purpose "the education of teachers in international studies, research, and participation in a group of American colleges and universities which pool their resources as a consortium. Member institutions of this consortium will establish professional relationships with universities in a number of countries at which prospective teachers from all member institutions and other teacher training institutions may have study and field experiences in the culture and education of these countries."

The President stated that the program had been reviewed by the Provost, Mr. Hereford, and by the Associate Provost for Research, Mr. Kuhlthau, and that it was their strong recommendation that the University become a member of the Inter-University International Teacher Education Council, Inc., as they saw an opportunity for the University of Virginia to become one of the leaders in various areas related to international studies.

Accordingly, the following resolution was adopted:

  • RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the President be and he is hereby authorized to arrange for the University of Virginia to become a member of the Inter-University International Teacher Education Council, Inc.
