TRUTH IN LOVE.

Jewel in my bosom set,
Tell me, do you love me yet?
Am I great and good and wise
In my little baby's eyes?
I, who in my soul am nought
But a wavering mist of thought,
Might with sunlit glory shine,
If you loved me, baby mine.
But when you are older grown,
Shall I lose your love, my own?
Will you look upon me then
From the outer world of men?
Will you blame me when you see
Words and actions disagree?
Let the world think as it will—
O my baby, trust me still!
Ere the earthy vapours rise,
To bedim these clear blue eyes,
Look on me, for I am true,
Worthy in my love of you.
When this cloud of life is past,
And the open heaven at last
Welcomes all the race of men,
You will see my truth again.
