JACK AND THE BEANSTALK.

Just down our garden walk, there,
And halfway to the wall,
A single stout beanstalk there
Has grown extremely tall.
‘It waits for Jack to climb it;
And what's become of him?’
So said—I only rhyme it—
Our valiant climber, Jim.
This morning as we wandered
Adown the garden walk,
While Willie looked and pondered,
And Jim did all the talk,
Up that same staircase narrow,
That beanstalk strong and high,
We saw him climb, Jack Sparrow!
With daring in his eye.
‘O Willie, do you see him?
With terror he is dumb;
We'll keep at hand to free him
In case the giant come.’
Alas! not quite reliant
Are birds on what we say—
Our Jamie was the giant,
Thought Jack, and flew away!
