A QUEER CONCEIT.
“Why don't they make these tragedies turn out different?”
said Mrs. Partington, after seeing Virginius
performed. “I think they might end them with a
dance; and all that are killed should take a part in it,
just to show folks that they 're alive. This, now, was
too savage; and when Mr. Virginius got the other gentleman
by the throat, I looked round for the police, to
see if he would part them, and there he was enjoying it
as well as the rest of 'em. I should like to know what
he is there for, if it a'n't to keep the peace.”
And the old lady was tucked up for the night.
