Fashion.—Among the Ancients.—Among the Savage
or Uncivilized Races of the present Day, and in Remote
Districts of Civilized Countries.
I HAVE, as already stated, determined to classify the various
positions, as nearly as possible, in accordance with the
position assumed by the axis of the body, and shall hence
consider first: A. The Perpendicular or Upright Positions;
then B. The Inclined Positions; and finally C. The Horizontal
or Recumbent Positions.
