7704. SAN DOMINGO, Exile of aristocrats.—
Genet tells me that the Patriotic
party in St. Domingo had taken possession of
six hundred aristocrats and monocrats, had sent
two hundred of them to France, and were sending
four hundred here. * * * I wish we could
distribute our four hundred among the Indians,
who would teach them lessons of liberty and
equality.—
To Martha Jefferson Randolph.
