, 8 February 1873. MT was trying out a revised version of the talk in preparation for his British tour;
because he felt English audiences had "a supposed greater delicacy of taste," as Lorch puts it,
this version contains a higher proportion of "serious" matter. Nonetheless, if the reporter is
accurate, MT's Brooklyn audience found a lot to laugh at.]
