By each fond smile, by every winning grace,
By all the heaven of beauty in thy face,
Say, why so harden'd thy relentless heart,
Proof to my pray'rs, and Love's unerring dart:
So beams the diamond with firy hue,
As sweetly brilliant, and as flinty, too!
