Autumn and sunset now have double-dyed
The foliage and the fern of this deep wood,
The sky above it melting placidly
All crimsonings to gray. No sound is heard.
The Spirit of the Place, like mine, seems lull'd
In pensive retrospection. One more Spring,
And one more Summer past, and one more Year.

Anon the distant bell begins to chime,

As lonely as the Forest, peopled but
With memories, and fantasies, and shadows.
These wait for me this evening. What beyond? . . .
