Nothing but truth can claim a lasting date;
Time is truth's surest judge, and judges late:
And, for thy guide, be HE alone believ'd,
Who never can deceive, nor is deceiv'd !
Thus safe thro' waves the sons of Isr'el trod;
Their better magnet was the lamp of God:
And thus Heav'n's star earth's humble shepherds led
To their Messiah in his humbler bed.
