Hec salutacio composuit Angelus Gabrielus.

The angel to þe vergyn said,
Entreng into here boure,
Fore drede of quakyng of þis mayd,
He said, ‘haile!’ with gret honour,
‘Haile! be þou quene of maidyns mo,
Lord of heuen and erþ also,
Consayue þou schalt, and bere with ale, þe Lord of myȝt,
Hele of al monkyn.
He wil make þe þe ȝate of heuen bryȝt,
Medesyne of al our syn.’
‘How schuld I consayue and gete?
No syn neuer I knew.
How schuld I breke þat I haue forehete
Of þoȝt s[t]edfast and trewe?’
‘Þe grace al of þe Hole Gost
Schal bryng ale forþ without boost;
Ne drede þou tak, bot ioy þou make, serten and sere.
Þis message He send to þe,
To dwel withyn þe ful pere
Þroȝ myȝt of His Fader fre.’

Þe angel went þie lade fro;
Þis womons wombe with wele,
Hit wax gret as odur do.
Þis blessid burþe of hele,
He was in here wome I wene
Þe nombur ful of moneþis ix;
Hent He out ȝed, batelis bede to al þ[e] flok,
Beryng on His chulderis bloo
Þe hole cros þat kene a knok
Vnto oure dedly foo.
Thys may bare Chyelde with mylde chere;
Þis Chylde bede kepe hyer chaast.
Goddus Sone heo broȝt us forþe and bere,
Ȝeffyng Hym wombe and waast;
Þen He blessud here sydus sere,
And so He did here pappus dere,
For þay ber þat þay nyst nott hwat. In law as we fyende
How þese werkus wroȝt arne;
Hit was aȝaynes al monkynde,
A maydon to ber a barne.
Make ioy, modir of oure Lorde,
Þat Cryst conceuedust cleene;
Angelus, men, and al þis worlde,
God pes and rest vs leane.
Mary, þy Son þou for vs pray,
As ȝe beþ ful of mercy ay,
And send vs to, and soo to do away oure syn,
And ȝef vs helpe of the,
Heuen blys we may dwel in
Afftur thys owtlary.
