In the Monastery of Whitby ould records bee
& antient monuments of true remembrance
That after the decease of Lord William Pearcy
a Controversy was & alsoe a variance
Betweene Serlo Pearcy wch was the second Prior of Whitby
& had the gouernance of the said Abbey
And the Lord Alane the first founder of the said Monastery his nephew
whereupon a wronge title the said Serlo forged out new.
