My Dear Brother Washington
He passed away with morning light,
Released from every pain;
For him, the weary hours of night
No longer could remain.

O holy Light! that blessed his eyes,
Before they closed in peace;

When earthly sorrows cease.

And sunk in peaceful, childlike rest,
Without a doubt, or fear.
