The Conspiracy
Nations and kings conspire against the Lord,Exulting in their numbers, and their might;
And in their pride reject His holy word,
Proclaiming to the world that Power is Right.
The prophets in the dungeons pine and die,
The patriots from their country far are driven;
The captives toiling in their bondage cry,
And raise their eyes, and fettered hands to heaven.
Cast down, O Lord, the proud! Uphold the weak!
For Thou art God of heaven, and earth, and sea;
Make bold thy servants, Lord, thy truth to speak;
Our country save, and set the captives free;
Rule Thou in righteousness through Christ thy Son,
And, as in heaven, on earth thy will be done.
