SACRED SONG.

By the rivers of Babylon we sat down and wept, when we remembered Zion.—
Bible.

By Zion's sweet waters we wept,
And sprinkled our bosoms with tears!
In Kedron's dark valley we slept,
And, waking, outnumbered her years!
The pilgrim that never hath sighed,
Shall tremble while gazing on thee,
And mourn that his Shiloh hath died,
Ere Jacob's young damsels were free!
But Barak's ten thousand are gone,
And Tabor shall tremble no more,
Where Necho caused Judah to mourn,
And scattered his people before!
Thy chariots, Sisera! are gone!
And Canaan shall flourish once more,
When Shiloh shall gather his own,
And people this desolate shore.
