REPORT BY THE PRESIDENT
The President introduced Mr. Jason Robinson, Chairman of the Honor Committee, and said that he and some of his colleagues on the Committee wished to report to the Board on the Board's request of last spring that the Committee review its procedures and bylaws for their legal sufficiency. The President noted that he has offered the Committee the full resources of the University, including help from the Office of the Legal Counsel. Mr. Robinson gave a brief report and distributed written material to the Board.
The President next gave several brief reports. Board members, he said, have just been given the current quarterly reports on the restructuring required by the Commonwealth. The basic restructuring documents, which have been sent to the State authorities in Richmond, had been distributed to the Board previously. The President next noted that there is considerable discussion in Washington about the participation of the Federal Government in direct lending programs to students. He has been involved in some of the discussions and he said the matter bears close monitoring. Finally, he noted recent discussions sponsored by the Association of Governing Boards about changing the accreditation process.
