RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO EDWARD E. ELSON FOR
BOARD OFFICE FURNISHINGS

The following resolution was adopted:

  • WHEREAS, the Office of the Board of Visitors has been returned to the Lawn precinct, the historic center of the University; and
  • WHEREAS, the Office now occupies rooms in Stanford White's northwest wing of the Rotunda, the centerpiece of the University as Thomas Jefferson envisioned it; and
  • WHEREAS, very few pieces of furniture suitable for these rooms and their purpose were available from the University's collections; and
  • WHEREAS, the Rector of the University, with a keen sense not only of the symbolism of the Board of Visitors Office in the Rotunda but also of the value of furnishing the Office appropriately, placed furniture in the Office as a gift to his colleagues and to the University;
  • NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board thanks the Rector, Edward E. Elson, for his most generous gesture, which is a gift not only to the Board of Visitors but to the University.
