NAMING OF THE ENTRANCE BUILDING OF THE LAW SCHOOL THE HENRY
MALCOLM WITHERS HALL

The following resolution was adopted:

  • WHEREAS, Mrs. Lacy Withers Armour, daughter of Henry Malcolm Withers, who was a 1869 graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, made generous provisions for the Law School in her estate; and
  • WHEREAS, trustees administering a portion of her estate have approved a $2.8 million gift to endow the Lacy Withers Armour Scholarships for outstanding law students, and a $200,000 gift to endow the Lacy Withers Armour Scholarships for undergraduate students;

  • NOW BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the main and entrance building of the Law School be named Henry Malcolm Withers Hall; and
  • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Laurance H. Armour, III, the great grandson of Henry Malcolm Withers, and to his fellow trustees with an appropriate expression of the deep appreciation of the Board of Visitors for this generous gift.
